Asphalt Millings

Asphalt Millings vs Gravel

What are Asphalt Millings?

Asphalt can be recycled in different ways. One of these ways is called millings, which is kind of like gravel but better. Think of millings as chunks of recycled asphalt that can be used again and again. Because we’re reusing materials, millings cost less than gravel – which saves money for both us and our customers! It’s also cheaper to move and install millings than gravel.

Millings are super tough when it comes to bad weather, especially rain. Unlike gravel, which can get crushed into tiny pieces or blown away by strong winds, millings actually stick together over time. This means you won’t have to fix them up as often as gravel, saving you time and money. Plus, millings won’t kick up and make a mess on your car like gravel does. They’re also great in winter – snow melts faster on millings, and ice has a harder time forming on them than on gravel.

Can Asphalt Millings be Used for Repairs?

Technically yes, however they work really only work well for temporary repairs. For permanent pothole repairs, hot mix asphalt is usually the better choice as it creates a stronger, more durable fix.

Millings are most commonly used to create new driving surfaces

They’re great for:

  • Building new driveways
  • Creating parking areas
  • Making farm roads
  • Temporary construction roads
  • Base layers for new asphalt installations
